Helen Garner: The Spare Room
This was a short, quick book. I loved how Garner to balanced Helen's sensitivity to her dying friend with her inability to manage the Nicola's care all on her own. It's a difficult subject, but Garner handled it deftly and subtly. I had to admire how controlled the writing was, and how much was conveyed in a scant 175 pages. Recommended.
