Roger Duvoisin's illustrations are lovely, and the story is charming. Poor little Donkey-Donkey suddenly becomes aware of his own unattractiveness and flits about trying to be like the other animals in an attempt to improve his looks. Nothing he tries works out for him, but the book has a satisfying (if predictable) ending anyway. It's not the most memorable story, but the illustrations keep us coming back to this one over and over.
